POSITION: Physician Assistant / Surgical Nurse
Practitioner
DEPARTMENT: Clinic
REPORTS TO: Dr. Gluck / Liz Tolberd
STATUS & EVALUATION LEVEL: FT with benefits, E8
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
§
Provides
assistance to the physician with direct and indirect patient care during the
clinical environment to include patient flow, preliminary patient exam, suture removal,
injections, dressing changes, splinting, casting, application of soft goods,
ROM measurements, fracture care, ordering diagnostic and/or laboratory tests,
ordering medications, and carrying individual patient loads for follow-up and
post-operative visits.
§
Complete
History & Physical on appropriate patients.
§
Provide
physician assistance during the surgical environment to include identifying
surgical requirements, pre-surgical preparation of patients, technique break observation,
surgical closures and application of dressings, writing pre and post-operative
orders, and emergency situation recognition and intervention.
§
Provide
assistance to medical assistant in returning calls.
§
Provides
appropriate information to patients and supporting persons regarding treatment
plan.
§
Obtain
phlebotomy and wound culture specimens verifying insurance coverage.
§
Transports
medical information, equipment and supplies to hospitals and rural clinics as
necessary.
§
Displays
a comprehensive knowledge of the principles of aseptic techniques.
§
Provide
accurate, thorough and complete documentation of all information pertinent to
patient treatment.
§
Assist
with weekend and after hours coverage per call schedule.
§
Assist
with and perform various hospital rounds.
§
Uphold
patient confidentiality when releasing any patient related information.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
§
Completion of
accredited PA program or ARNP program
§
Preferably 1 year
experience performing PA or NP duties in orthopaedics with emphasis in hand and
upper extremity surgery
§
Sound knowledge
regarding medical protocol
§
Demonstrates the
ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
§
Competent skills
regarding patient care and universal precautions
§
Demonstrates
interpersonal skills to interact effectively with other staff and outside
contacts
§
Demonstrates a
professional demeanor that ensures confidentiality in all areas of work
§
Problem-solving
and critical thinking abilities
§
Obtain continuing
education as directed by certification
