Dr. Brian Hakala is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in pediatric orthopaedics. After earning an undergraduate degree in biology at Harvard University, Dr. Hakala completed the combined M.A./M.D. program at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. While earning his masters degree he carried out arthritis research in a lab at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal, Canada. He then completed an internship and five-year residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. In addition, Dr. Hakala completed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for children in Wilmington, Delaware. He first became interested in pediatric orthopaedics while working at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital as a medical student. He enjoys working with children to help them receive the best possible care and feels it is important to communicate with parents by explaining as much as possible about conditions, treatment options, and expected results. Dr. Hakala holds a number of professional associations including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Kansas Medical Society, and Medical Society of Sedgwick County. Dr. Hakala serves on the staffs of Via Christi Health System and
Wesley Medical Center.
Away from the office, Dr. Hakala enjoys hiking and skiing. He also enjoys reading and has become quite the “American and World History buff.”
