Dr. Scott Jahnke is a physiatrist (physical medicine and rehabilitation), board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Family Practice. The discipline of physical medicine and rehabilitation focuses on restoring lost function to patients who are non-surgical candidates experiencing musculoskeletal problems. As a physiatrist, Dr. Jahnke treats injuries ranging from a sore back to sports medicine injuries. Physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists are concerned with all areas of rehabilitation - medical, social and vocational - complementing the care delivered by the other physicians at Kansas Orthopaedic Center. Physiatry takes a total approach to restoring the patient to full function by drawing on the skills of various health care professionals which may include social workers, counselors and rehabilitation therapists. Dr. Jahnke was drawn to rehabilitation because, as a physiatrist, he is able to move beyond the initial treatment of a disease to helping the patient return to the activities of daily living and the prevention of recurrence. In addition to the care he provides at Kansas Orthopaedic Center, Dr. Jahnke serves on the staffs of Via Christi Health Systems, Wesley Medical Center and Surgery Center of Kansas. Dr. Jahnke holds a number of professional associations, including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, American Academy of Family Practice, American College of Sports Medicine and Association of Academic Physiatrists.
